When you think of an industry representative, the first thing that comes to mind might be product updates or sales materials or lunch. But in reality, their role goes far deeper. For Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs), industry reps can be trusted partners—providing education, resources, and solutions that support patient care, clinic efficiency, and professional growth.

In this webinar, we’ll move beyond the sales pitch to explore how RVTs can make the most of these partnerships. You’ll hear directly from speakers who began their careers as RVTs and transitioned into industry roles. They’ll share their personal career journeys, the unique perspective they bring to supporting veterinary teams, and practical ways you can collaborate with your reps to elevate both your work and your clinic.

This session is approved for 1 hour of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit for RVTs by the ABVMA.

This webinar will be recorded.

Alana Gomez, RVT

Alana Gomez graduated from the Animal Health Technology program at Lakeland College, Alberta, in 1997. She spent many years working as a Registered Veterinary Technologist in both mixed and small animal practices before joining Vetoquinol in 2010 as the Territory Manager for Companion Animals in Northern Alberta.

In her role, Alana is passionate about building strong relationships, supporting veterinary professionals in their growth, and helping practices thrive. Dedicated to the veterinary industry, she continues to learn and grow alongside the teams she works with, always seeking meaningful ways to add value and strengthen partnerships.

Beyond her professional work, Alana has contributed her time to the Animal Cancer Therapy Subsidization Society (ACTSS) needs committee, a non-profit equine club, and served a term on the ABVTA Communications Committee.

Outside of work, Alana enjoys life with her husband and two children—whether camping in the mountains, spending time on the family farm, traveling, or enjoying the company of their dog and cats.

Penny Steffen, RVT

Penny Steffen grew up on a mixed farm in Northern Alberta, where she was actively involved in her family’s commercial cow-calf operation and participated in 4-H. Her passion for animals led her to pursue a diploma in Animal Health Technology from Fairview College, which she completed in 1996.

She spent over 15 years working as an RVT and Practice Manager in a busy mixed animal practice before taking on new challenges with GPRC Fairview’s Animal Science Department and later Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. In 2017, Penny joined Vetoquinol as the Farm Animal Territory Manager for Alberta and northern B.C., where she continues to support producers and veterinary teams. In recognition of her dedication, Penny was named Vetoquinol’s Farm Animal Territory Manager of the Year in 2024, was awarded the 2019 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award and received the ABVTA Meritorious Service Award in 2017, and the ABVTA Appreciation Award in 2022.

Deeply committed to her profession, animal welfare and community, Penny serves as President of the Peace Regional SPCA, Vice Chair of the ABVMA HR Advisory Committee and is currently chairing the Membership Transition Committee for RVTTC. She previously served 10 years on the Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association Board of Directors and volunteered with AFAC’s ALERT Line as well as a number of community organizations.

Outside of work, Penny enjoys horseback riding, spending time with her rescue dog and cat, and being outdoors. She is passionate about sharing her RVT journey and mentoring RVTs, helping them to embrace their full potential in the profession while encouraging them to step outside their comfort zone with confidence.
