Mental health challenges remain a significant concern across the veterinary profession, with nearly 10% of veterinarians and 18% of veterinary support staff experiencing serious psychological distress at work.

The Working Mind (TWM) is a nationally recognized mental health training program designed specifically for veterinary professionals. Presented by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), delivered by Opening Minds at the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and sponsored by Petsecure, this program helps employees and managers build resilience, reduce stigma, and foster psychologically safe workplaces.

Participants gain practical tools to understand workplace stress, recognize early signs of mental health challenges, and strengthen coping strategies using the Mental Health Continuum and Big Four coping strategies. Managers also learn how to support team members, respond to critical workplace events, and promote healthier practice cultures through interactive learning, videos, and small-group discussions.
