Webinar 2 Understanding the Social Determinants of Animal Health: How Power, Privilege and Intersectionality Shape Healthcare and Health Outcomes in Veterinary Medicine by Dr. Jordan Woodsworth

Veterinary professionals play a critical role in promoting health and well-being for animals and the people who care for them. Yet access to veterinary care is shaped by complex social factors, many of which are beyond the control of individual animal caregivers. Building on the first webinar in this series on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in veterinary medicine, this 90-minute webinar will explore how power, privilege, and intersectionality influence veterinary practice and animal health outcomes across Canada. Participants will gain practical tools to recognize inequities and apply inclusive strategies that improve and expand access to care for diverse communities.

You’ll leave with the ability to:

• Define and contextualize power, privilege, and intersectionality within veterinary medicine and public health.

• Identify key social determinants of health that impact both human and animal health, especially in marginalized and remote communities.

• Examine real-world scenarios to understand how inequities in access to veterinary care arise and persist.

After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details you need to join.

These webinars are free and open to everyone in veterinary practice—including veterinarians, student veterinarians, RVTs, student RVTs, and all veterinary team members.
