Beating the 'Bugs' - Sterilization and High-Level Disinfection Overview

High level disinfection and sterilization is performed in veterinary hospitals worldwide. In this session, Heidi Reuss-Lamky, LVT, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia), (Surgery), will be discussing the importance of proper surgical cleaning and processing and how to verify the efficiency of each step in the disinfection/sterilization process. This 90-minute session will focus on the tools and products used to assure cleanliness and sterility, the role of ultrasonic cleaning devices, appropriate use of chemical and steam sterilization, and the importance of following the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Heidi Reuss-Lamky has over 40 years of surgical expertise, and is affiliated with Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She is a Fear Free Certified Professional, earned a VTS in anesthesia and was a founding member of the Academy of  Veterinary Surgical Technicians.  She is an active member of many professional organizations, an accomplished author and lecturer, and was the proud recipient of the 2013 NAVC Dr. Jack L. Mara Memorial Lecturer award.
