Wellness Sessions for Veterinary Professionals - Summer Series

Join Judith Pinto (Registered Occupational Therapist, Alberta) for 1 or more of the 8 upcoming one-hour sessions focused on exploring and addressing stress, burnout, and compassion/moral fatigue for veterinary professionals.

This is a repeat of the series of 4 one-hour sessions offered in June 2025. We'll repeat the four sessions starting July 5th for 4 weeks, with the final session on July 26th. And we'll start from the beginning on August 2nd, ending on the 23rd. Come more than once to deepen your understanding or to ask more questions! Choose whichever dates work best for you if you can only attend a few.

Each week, we'll explore the similarities and differences between stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue using different lenses (person-environment-occupation model of occupational therapy, individualized zone of optimal functioning, polyvagal theory, and sensory processing) so participants can have a perspective that resonates best for them and begin to address the impact these challenges have on their daily life. While these sessions do not necessarily build on knowledge from previous sessions, attending all 4 sessions can help participants develop a more fulsome understanding of ways to intentionally engage in deep self care to support their personal wellbeing.

Each session will begin with a lecture followed by a learning activity to help embed learning. There will be about 10 minutes at the end of each session for questions* focused on the topic of the day (or topics that have been previously covered).

If participants attend all four sessions, they will begin to develop:

  •  an understanding of the similarities and differences between stress, burnout, and empathic/compassion/moral fatigue
  • an understanding of the difference between "good" and "bad" stress and its impact on their functioning
  •  a personal toolkit to meet their needs to effectively and intentionally manage work related stress so they can begin to use strategies to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue at work and in daily life
