ABVTA Radiation Safety Week Webinar - Increasing Radiation Safety for Veterinary Teams

November 8 - 14, 2021 marks the inaugural ABVTA Radiation Safety Week.

With increasing caseloads and staffing challenges, our personal radiation safety may not always be top of mind. Veterinary professionals are exposed to radiation on a daily basis.

Your safety is justifiable, lets work together to reduce occupational radiation exposure of veterinary professionals through innovation and education.

The ABVTA will be hosting two webinars throughout the week. November 10th we will be discussing increasing radiation safety for our veterinary teams.

With radiation being invisible, it is sometimes easy to worry about our patients and forget about ourselves when taking x-rays.

In this session, we will cover basic radiation safety awareness for the veterinary x-ray worker: what is required and what is recommended.

We will also review easy steps to replace our hands with positioning devices and increase our distance from the x-ray source while emphasizing patient comfort and safety. Remember every step away matters!

Registration is complimentary for all ABVTA members. All members of the veterinary team are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This course has been approved for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit from the ABVMA for Alberta veterinary technologists and veterinarians.

Speakers: Julia Bitan, RVT and Shannon Gervais, RVT (bio coming soon)

Julia started the HANDSFREE XRAYS initiative in 2016 to bring awareness to radiation safety in the veterinary workplace and help reduce occupational exposure to veterinary workers. She recently (March 2019) finished her 2 year term on the Board of Directors at the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT). Julia grew up in Jerusalem, Israel and has worked as a small animal RVT for over 10 years. Julia's work received awards and recognition from several organizations along with invitations to present at industry conferences and events.
